Vascular Birthmarks Removal
Vascular birthmarks are common, usually presenting as red or purplish discolorations on the skin of infants. There are many different kinds of vascular birthmarks, some that fade after several months and others that can become larger or more disfiguring with time. Many vascular birthmarks can occur on the face, neck and upper torso, making them more noticeable. At Dallas Facial Plastic Surgery Center, we offer vascular birthmark removal procedures at our clinic in Irving, TX.
Stork bites, port wine stains, salmon patches and angel kisses are all names for vascular birthmarks that can appear on the skin. They can range from light pink to a deep maroon or purple, and from a small “angel kiss” to a large port wine stain that covers half the face. Some vascular birthmarks are transient and may begin to fade away by the time a child reaches their first birthday. Others can stay on the skin into adulthood unless they are removed through treatment.
Laser Treatment for Birthmark Removal
The most common treatment recommended for vascular birthmark removal is laser skin therapy. Lasers can target the blood vessels that create vascular birthmarks and are effective at removing many port wine stains and other common birthmarks. Most patients will require several or more laser treatment sessions to completely remove a birthmark from the skin. The number of treatments depends on the size and color of the formation.
Birthmark Plastic Surgeon
In some circumstances, excision is recommended for birthmark removal. Dr. Stefan Shuaib is an experienced facial plastic surgeon who offers specialized birthmark removal through either laser treatments or plastic surgery. When a birthmark cannot effectively be removed through non-surgical options, plastic surgery may be the best solution. Dr. Shuaib can carefully remove disfiguring birthmarks while minimizing scarring from the excision.
If you or your child have a vascular birthmark that covers the face, neck or other visible area, removal might be prudent.
